💡 SSC has a small canvas (100×120 px). JPEG at 72–80% quality keeps it under 50 KB while looking sharp at this size. The binary-search compression will auto-hit the target KB.

SSC Photo — Frequently Asked Questions
SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable and CPO all require a photograph of 100 × 120 pixels, JPEG format, maximum 50 KB. The background must be plain white and the face must be clearly visible with no accessories like sunglasses or caps.
SSC requires the signature to be 140 × 60 pixels, JPEG format, maximum 20 KB. Sign in black or blue ink on plain white paper, photograph it in good light without shadows, then upload it using the SSC Signature preset above.
Yes. SSC GD Constable follows the same specification — 100×120 px, JPEG, max 50 KB for photo and 140×60 px, max 20 KB for signature. Use the SSC GD preset above which has these values pre-filled and auto-names the file
sscgdphoto.jpg.100×120 px is a very small canvas — some softness is expected and normal at this size. To maximise sharpness: start with a high-resolution photo (at least 600×720 px), keep quality at 78%+, and ensure the original photo is sharply focused with good lighting. The SSC portal only displays the photo at small size, so minor softness is not visible to reviewers.
The SSC portal will reject the upload with an error message like "Invalid file size" or "Invalid dimensions." Your application will remain incomplete until you upload a correctly sized photo. Use this tool to generate an exactly correct file — the output is always 100×120 px at the specified KB limit.
SSC does not explicitly prohibit selfies, but requires a passport-style photograph against a plain white background. A self-taken photo is acceptable if taken in front of a white wall with good, even lighting — no shadows on the face or background. Avoid filters. Upload it here to resize to exactly 100×120 px before submitting.
